What is the Best Spot Cleaner for Carpet?
We tested 3 of best portable carpet cleaners or spot cleaners from three leading brands and this video will show the results. Links in the description to the Amazon listings for each cleaner and lets get started.
The three portable carpet cleaners we tested were the Bissell SpotClean Pro 3625, The HOOVER Spotless Deluxe Portable Carpet & Upholstery Spot Cleaner FH11400PC and the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner.
These are all in the same premium price range and we expected them to do much better than cheaper units .
We started with a stain removal test. The stains included transmission fluid, grape juice, yellow food coloring and water, coffee, and a ketchup and mustard mix. I let the stains dry for about 5 hours and pretreated the bottom yellow stains with the same pretreatment to see if it made any difference, spoiler alert it really didn’t.
All three operated pretty much the same way, you just remove the clean water tank add hot tap water and a cleaning solution. You press a trigger to spray water and then vacuum as needed.
After the first tank they all did way better than I was expecting but there were still stains. With the Bissell Spotclean pro doing just slightly better than the rest at this point.
After 1 more tank they all were much better, with only very minor stains that may have come out if I had done a third pass. Basically all these spot cleaners are very good But I would still rank them like this in terms of this test:
1 The Bissell SpotClean Pro 3625 Best
2 Better Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner
3 Good The HOOVER Spotless Deluxe
The airflow tests showed no major differences as they all were between about 1100 and 1200 fpm so pretty equal as far as power. With the hoover showing about 10% more airflow than the Rug Doctor.
With regard to construction, usability and features. My favorites were the Bissell Spotclean, and the Rug Doctor
They are both well constructed and seem very study.
The Bissell spotclean pro was slightly easier to use, but the rug doctor did have a cool motorized brush, that none of the others had. The Rug Doctor was heavier than the others but It also had a roller handle, which was nice. Also They both had tanks that were easy to fill in a small sink .
The hoover on the other hand was not as well built, didn’t clean as well as the others, and I was unable to fill the tank in a small sink because of its shape.
So overall my pick would be the Bissell Spotclean pro, it did the best, and was the easiest to use in my opinion.
