Roomba 980 vs Neato D7 - ROUND 4 - Battery Life - Noise Level - Bin Volume

Welcome to round 4 of our multi part video series pitting the Irobot Roomba 980 against the Neato Botvac Connected D7.

In this round we will test battery life, bin volume, and noise level.

 

First up the bin volume tests, we filled up each bin and poured the contents into a measuring cup, its not the most exact method but it should be good enough.

 

The Roomba 980 measured about 1 ¾ cups and the Neato D7 had about 2.5 cups which is a huge difference. This is important too, especially if you are scheduling cleanings when you aren’t around, as a bot can only clean until its bin fills up.

 

So another point for the Neato D7

 

Next is noise level.

 

The Roomba showed about 78 decibels in turbo mode and 69 in eco mode. Not too loud but still loud enough to cause you to turn up the volume on the TV when it comes in the room.

 

The Neato D7 was a quieter showing 70 decibels in turbo mode and 66.5 in eco mode.

 

So another point for the Neato D7

 

On to the battery life tests.

Both of these robot vacuums claim to have 120 minutes of battery life in eco mode but I could not duplicate those results.

 

The reason is because I don’t have a big enough testing area so I had to restart the bots several times when they completed cleaning the area, and restarting causes a lot of battery output. If they ran continuously Im sure that both would be very close to the advertised amount.

 

Here are the results I got, with an average of 5 restarts per run:

 

Roomba eco floor: 100 min

Neato eco floor: 107 min

 

Roomba Turbo Floor: 48 min

Neato Turbo Floor: 74 min

 

So although the Neato D7 won again, the battery test is non admissible because with the Roomba 980 I was using a new 3rd party battery, which although is supposed to give the same amount of life as the factory battery I cant be sure it is the same so no points awarded here because of that.
